"SubiEVee" 2008 Subaru Forester Sport AWD EV Conversion

Our most ambitious conversion to date was conceived as a "proof of concept" vehicle for all-season use in the rugged Rocky Mountain region. Starting with a new metallic black 2008 Subaru Forester "Sport" purchased from Subaru, we removed the combustion engine components (engine, radiator, exhaust system, gas tank, etc). Engineering firm AutoPilot of Bozeman Montana performed CAD design and CNC fabrication of a custom aluminum adapter and mounting system to mount the powerful Azure Dynamics AC55 AC electric motor and mate it to the stock Subaru 5-Speed manual transmission thereby retaining the Subaru's all-wheel drive system. The car was next transported to Gordon Ormesher's EV conversion shop in Hayden Lake Idaho. "Gordy" designed, fabricated and installed front and rear battery boxes along with the Azure DMOS controller, inverter, power steering and brakes, heater and other components and subsystems. Tim Foster of Patriotic Motors, based in nearby Spokane Washingston, was brought in to intall and wire up 100 - 60 Ah GBS lithium battery cells and monitoring by Elite Power Systems BMS to provide 320 volts nominal rolling power.
